Houben Tcherkelov, known as Houben R.T., is a Bulgarian born artist who explores the symbolic links between government produced images and national power and identity derived from various currencies. Interested in exploring how these images function out of their government issued context, the artist isolates or repositions the images and renders them in a lyrical, colorful, and highly textured manner.
The artist’s unique style and subject matter has earned him numerous nation wide exhibits, including shows at the Bronx Museum, NY, the Museum of Biblical Art, NY, the Brogan Museum in Florida, and the NYMEX Art Gallery at the World Financial Center, to name a few. Houben also represented Bulgaria in the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011. The artist currently lives and works in New York.
